Evaluations
Our evaluation process goes beyond traditional assessments that often focus on deficits. We take a holistic, neuro-affirming approach that centers each individual’s strengths, communication style, and lived experience. Our evaluations are designed to support meaningful growth while honoring identity, autonomy, and self-advocacy.
The areas we evaluate include:

Evaluation Structure
Evaluations at Logopedia are typically completed through one comprehensive evaluation session, informed by caregiver history and intake information collected in advance. This structure allows for meaningful observation, interaction, and assessment while reducing the burden of multiple appointments for families.
In some cases, an additional observation or diagnostic therapy session may be recommended to better understand a child’s communication profile. These sessions are suggested only when clinically necessary and are discussed with families
AAC Evaluations
AAC evaluations follow a more individualized and collaborative process. These evaluations are designed to explore access methods, communication preferences, and support needs across contexts. Because AAC systems require thoughtful consideration and, in some cases, trialing or observation over time, the structure of an AAC evaluation may differ from other evaluation types.
AAC evaluation recommendations are based on clinical observation, caregiver input, and functional communication needs. The specific structure and components of the evaluation are discussed with families in advance to ensure clarity and shared understanding.
Feeding evaluations
For feeding-related evaluations, we assess oral-motor and sensorimotor skills, review relevant medical and developmental history, and consider the emotional, social, and environmental factors that influence feeding experiences or both the child and their family.
All evaluations include a written report with clinical observations, relevant scores or qualitative findings, and individualized recommendations. Reports include a proposed plan of care outlining treatment priorities for approximately six months.
